Create mailboxes on your own domain and read them anywhere.
4 min read
Every hosting plan includes email on your own domain — hello@yourbusiness.com rather than a free address that makes an invoice look like a hobby. Mailboxes are created in DirectAdmin and read in a browser, in a desktop app, or on your phone.
In DirectAdmin open E-mail Accounts and choose Create Account. Pick the part before the @, set a password, and give the mailbox a storage quota out of your plan's space. Use a long password you have not used anywhere else: mailboxes are the most commonly attacked part of any hosting account, and a compromised one gets used to send spam within hours.
Webmail is built in. Open E-mail Accounts and click Webmail beside the mailbox — nothing to install, and it works fine in a phone browser if you only need to check mail occasionally.
Use IMAP rather than POP3, so the same mail appears on every device instead of being pulled onto one. The settings are the same for Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird and the Gmail app:
Add both the old and the new account to a desktop mail app as IMAP, then drag the folders across; everything copies into the new mailbox and stays on the server. If there are years of mail, tell us instead — moving it is part of free migration.
SPF and DKIM records are created for your domain automatically, and they are what stop your invoices arriving in a customer's junk folder. If you move your DNS somewhere else, copy those records across or your mail will start failing checks. If a message is rejected outright, send us the bounce text — the reason is in there, and we will read it with you.
